Well actually, nowhere MrF, just taken a break from gaming due to the mad Crimbo period. The horrors have been basking in their Xmas booty and being a Bah Humbug, I was banished to the back room during my days off. I did try to ‘integrate’ with the family unit over Xmas, but alas the noise and general mayhem drove me daft. A Nintendo WII being the new addition to the ‘Fazzy Abode’ and the crazed frenzy of game playing began.
Oh I did try to compete, but I’m not a nipper anymore. I used to be a gaming freak in the 80’s, an arcade & console junkie. Space Invaders, Galaxians, Scramble, the Atari console, the C64…. No, the skill has left my body, now I must face the humiliation of being soundly thrashed by all the kids.
So I’ve raised a few more armies, from the junkpile and shrewd online acquisitions. A few more rule-sets have been studied, which look rather good as well. Posts will be made soon, though I will be sticking to the later periods or ‘DBA with guns’. I enjoy those time frames much more, so I can’t see much happening in the ‘pure’ DBA periods (Ancients & Medievals). So sorry folks, this DBA site won't be getting many posts. I'll be concentrating on our DBA 1500-1900 site. Check out our latest, Zulu Wars... http://mrfarrow2udba1519k.blogspot.com/2010/01/dbc-zulu-army-1879.html

How's it going MrF June 2009?
Well, basically it isn't... Far too much to do, work, work, work, work & soon some holidays. No time for gaming or painting. Sorry folks but it will probably be the back end of July before there's anything new to report. Take care & happy gaming.....

How's it going MrF? December 2008
Just a quick update, as work & study are taking up far too much time!
Crimbo is coming, so we'll have a couple of weeks off. In between the festivities hopefully we'll get some games in.
Projects on the go, Boxer Rebellion, Zulu Wars, Afghan Wars. Well, I'm well & truly hooked on the Colonial period. After our Sudan Wars project, I've found the 19th Century to be very interesting.... (ponder, ponder, stroke chin).
Here's a few pics of some of the figures we've come up with so far. The DBA Extensions don't have any lists for the Rebellion so we'll have to make our own.
Prince Tuan & some Kansu Braves..... US Marines, Sikhs & Royal Marines

BOXERS up close. Plus Royal Marines (Jaegers)

Hopefully we'll get some more posts in before Crimbo...
If not Merry Xmas & a Happy New Year to all!!

How's it going MrF?? July08.
It's the School Holidays & I've got some time off, so.... Out with the paints! I've been 'rummaging' through the unfinished boxes, just to see what needs that final touch. There's a fair few projects that I'd forgotten about & of course some NEW ones!
The Bits 'n' Bobs

Polybian Roman Spears now have Shield Transfers!

First the old ones, still to complete. TYW French, just need to buy some suitable Mounted Musketeers. Both the Cardinals Guard & Kings Musketeers. French Wars of Religion, got more than enough troops now, just need to get them based MrF style & add some suitable flags. Italian Wars, again more than enough troops, just need to sort them out & add suitable flags. They'll be then straight into battle. Well they're the 'biggies'.
SO a new one! THE SUDAN.... Victorian British & Hordes of Dervishes. Hidden away in a box on the shelves, some previous purchases & old paint jobs. Where did this sudden inspiration come from? Watching the 1939 version of 'The Three Feathers', the best version by far! So I've been trawling the Web for research, there are now some new Sites on the Links section.
The British troops are all red coated, so to be able to cover all the Sudan Campaign I'm going to re-paint half of them in Khaki. We have some unpainted Mikes Models British Cavalry, so they will be painted & join the ranks! Plus I'll need some artillery crews & some of the odd bods, British Camel troops, probably order them online.
The SUDAN Box
Plus this week, we've tidied up our Carthaginians. Touched up the paint jobs, fixed those pesky spears that have fallen off, added new elements. Pics to follow!

How's it going MrF?
Oh dear, the paints have been out again after a few months on the sidelines. The last time we had this 'urge' (you ALL know what its like...) saw us building hordes of AWI Armies, mostly due to Giles Allisons BRILLIANT Tarletons Quarter Blog http://gilesallison.blogspot.com/
I've been trawling around the blogs & websites lately. Quite frankly the paint jobs out there are getting better & better, so in total envy we're back into 'Building Army' mode. We don't have any fancy set up, all the kit is in trays or boxes & the dining table is the base. So along with some good EBay purchases & plain lead, the armies are coming along nicely.
What's in the pipeline? Wargames Illustrated have just ran a great series on the 30YW, so along with a free download of flags http://www.wargamesillustrated.net/reader.asp, we've got a Dutch Army. I do fancy a 30YW French Army, complete with D'Artagnons Musketeers, so that's on the go. French Huguenots are not far behind, to go with our existing English Elizabethans. We've also finished some elements to complete our AWI Armies.
Oh and thanks to the fantastic Phils War Cabinet http://www.warcabinet.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/army_showcase%20%20italian%20wars.htm we're just finishing off an Italian Wars Imperial Army with loads of those 'hairy germans in pyjamas', Landsknects. Just need some Artillery for them, I do like Vexillia Ltds Landsknect Artillery & will be buying some when funds allow. http://www.vexillia.ltd.uk/venexia/images/scangi41a.jpg
The 'Tools of Creation'....

Dutch Cuirassiers & Dragoons, Huguenots, AWI Cavalry & Infantry

Finished elements & stuff ready for Basing

Now I'm going to have a rant. I was looking through the 'creations' the other day & have you ever had that 'I just don't like the look of them...' urge? Well it was our Sassanid Persians & I'm not happy with our current banners. Yes I know LBM do a flag sheet, but it's for 28mm. (I once spent an eternity at a Games Show Stand measuring up the LBM flagsheet against one of our Sassanid figures. After much 'oooing & aaarring', I still wasn't happy, as it would of meant cutting down the lovely flags. So I left, buying a paintbrush in guilt at taking up so much of the nice traders time..).
I've also seen the free Persian flags on Fanticus, but I've used them elsewhere. I've trawled round Google, looking for Sassanid designs, but found very little. SO... if anyone out there has some cool designs & wouldn't mind sharing them, then please please please leave a comment on our blog with a link or something.
I'm due to start a 7 day shift pattern at work, so new posts may be thin on the ground.
Cheers MrF

A Good Day!
Well, Jack & I have been to Vapartnak at York. A very good show, we've picked up some good stuff & off loaded a lot of unwanted lead. We even managed to swap our 15mm Jannisaries for a Very Nice DBA Aztec Army. Hopefully I'll get some pics of it up soon. We met the nice folks from Scarborough Wargames Club, who ran an awesome 28mm Waterloo game. Hello again Uriah!. We also bought a AWI Scenario book by Partizan Press, It's for the British Grenadier rules, but I'll adapt them for DBA 1500-1900 & we'll play a few a the battles from it. Of course! Battle Reports to follow...
In proper Football, Boro took a point from the Geordies at Sid James Park. But I'm ready for the SUPERBOWL BABY! Lots of Beer at the ready... So I'm rooting for the PATS.. (Oh dear is that the kiss off death? Only time will tell!)

Hello Everybody !!!
Jack gloating again.....
Ok... well this Blog is dedicated to our dabble into the world
Ok... well this Blog is dedicated to our dabble into the world
of De Bellis Antiquitatis (DBA) & all it's add ons. We'll show
our Armies that we have collected & the many Battles that
have took place in our humble abode.
Why DBA? Well for us it's perfect, time in our household is a premium. We can have a quick game, small amount of troops, small board with a simple set of rules, then pack it all away quickly for another day. We play as often as we can but we ALWAYS have fun...which in my book is what it's all about.

Who are we? Well we're a Father & Son (plus sometimes Amy) outfit from Middlesbrough in the North East of England. While I've had the gaming 'disease' for many years, my son Jack has developed it recently. We travel to many Wargames Shows when we can (& money allows!) in the North of England collecting bits n bobs to build our collection. Sometimes other peoples work, sometimes plain lead which we enjoy painting.
We're not out to change the world but if you get enjoyment or even inspiration from our collection then good stuff!
As a family we're keen members of English Heritage & visit sites all over the North of England. I thoroughly recommend joining, paying the yearly membership allows free entry to the sites. You do save quite a bit of cash. The kids love going to the Castles & a good day is had by all. I've put a few pics of the sites we've been to. There's also some from a holiday to Western Scotland.
