III/51 Normans

Here's our Norman army just to finish off our dip into the realms of 1066. Very heavy on the Knights, with Cavalry, Spear & Psiloi. We've had to dig deep into our Early Crusader army just to make up the quota of Knights.

III/51 Norman or Western Frankish 888AD - 1072Ad
1x3Kn(Gen), 5x3(Kn), 1x3Kn or 3Cv or 2Lh, 1x3Kn or 3Cv,

III/71 Anglo-Danish

Cracking 2 part program on the box this week, 1066 The Battle for Middle-Earth, recounting the 3 battles that took place during the fateful year of 1066. A great watch, if you missed it or can't receive Channel 4 then here's a link to catch up TV http://www.channel4.com/programmes/1066/catch-up

SO.... Off we went to the DBA boxes & morphed a Anglo-Saxon army to battle the VIKINGR! Tofi, Leofric and Ordgar come to life on our battlefield & we re-fought the Battle of Stamford Bridge. Hopefully we'll re-fight Hastings against the nasty Normans later...

III/40a Viking

Rowing.. Rowing.. Rowing.. Rowing.. Rowing..

Here's our Viking Army ready to raid the British Isles.... Coming from the North east of England there's lots of reminders of Viking influence, the city of YORK with it's JORVIK centre is just down the road http://www.jorvik-viking-centre.co.uk/ . While further up North there's many more historical sites. It's a pity then, that we haven't played too many games with the Vikings. I can feel a game idea coming on....

III/40a Viking 790-849AD
1x4Bd(Gen), 2x4Bd, 8x3Bd, 1x3Bd or 3Wb or 2Ps

With a few extra elements we can easily morph the other options in the Viking/Leidang list.

III/73 Seljuk Turk(a) Rum 1200-1243AD

The strongest of the Seljuk states was the Sultanate of Rum (pronounced Rome) which had its capital at Iconium (Konya). At it's height the Sultanate held a vast area of Anatolia. Not suprisingly it's a horsemans army, with half the elements being Light Horse.

III/73 Seljuk Turk(b) 1037-1276AD

The Seljuks that rose to domination in the Middle Ages. They defended the Islamic world against the Crusaders, and conquered large parts of the Byzantine Empire. They also provided a barrier between Europe and the raiding Mongols. Very heavy on Light Horse, this list is meant to represent the other tribes not part of Rum.

III/73 Seljuk Turk(b) Others
1x3Cv(Gen), 1x3Cv or 2Lh, 8x2Lh, 1x2Ps or 3Bw or 3Ax or 2Lh, 1x2Ps or 3Bw or 3Ax or 2Lh

DBA III/47 Pecheneg 850-1122AD

Another one of those peculier armies that I have a 'thing' for.
A combination of many Steppe peoples that swept into the Balkans.
They fought for and against the Byzantines, however even as
mercenaries they sometimes turned on their employers!

We painted these ourselves, I think the majority of the Light Horse
are Essex. The War Wagons are Irregular Minis.

DBA III/19 Welsh 580-1420AD

Hordes of screaming Welshmen to battle with anyone wanting a piece of the 'Valleys'. The DBA list covers nearly a 1000 years, quite remarkable indeed. All options are included for the 3 listings of the Welsh. Spear & Warband are catered together with a generic base.

I can't claim this paint job, a purchase from EBAY & they are very nice! The foot look to be Essex & the mounted figures are Museum.

III/19 Welsh 580-1420AD
(a) 580-1099 1x3Cv or 3Wb(Gen), 9x3Wb, 2x2Ps
(b)1100-1294(South) 1x3Cv or 3Kn(Gen), 2x3Wb, 8x3Lb, 1x2Ps
(c)1100-1420(North) 1x3Cv or 3Kn(Gen), 8x3Sp, 3x3Lb or 3Sp or 2Ps

The Horde, all options

The Spear/Warband elements

The mighty Welsh Longbows

Psiloi

Welsh Prince, Knight or Cavalry General

A nice army, very generic & could be morphed into many other armies.
We used these as the Irish Army in our Elizabethan English vs Irish/Spanish game.
